Profile
Hi, I’m Sheree.
Being able to share someone else’s story is a big part of why I became a writer.
I was told from a young age that I had a lot to say and I was affectionately known as the chatterbox of the family. As I got older and started dabbling in short stories and poetry, my Poppy said I would be the one who could write the words to go on his gravestone one day. Thankfully he’s still with us, but it certainly sparked a few ideas and I decided maybe I could explore the path of writing.
The biggest challenge was choosing the right field of writing. I found myself studying journalism which eventually led to my first “real” job working for the Caboolture News/Bribie Weekly and Island & Mainland News. It was a mixed role but one I am grateful for as I met so many lovely people and told so many amazing stories. It also helped set me up where I am today. I’m mum to two very strong and independent young ladies. That’s pretty much code for sassy, but I know they’ll go far in this world. Being able to divert my writing to a freelance role has meant I can spend time with them as well and let them drive me up the wall. That’s parenting for you.
So here I am now. I write for two papers based in the Moreton Bay Region – The Local Times (formerly Feature Magazine) and The Local News. I also do online blogging and editing work. But if I have to pick a favourite style of writing, I always come back to feature writing. It’s an avenue where you get to take the time to really get to know someone and get to the heart of their story.
When I’m not tapping away at my keyboard, I’m usually spending time with my family out and about, building Lego or puzzles or getting stuck into a good show or even a book. And I’m always on the lookout for my next story adventure.
